Properties
Density is 1.071g/cm3, boiling point is 181.8C, melting point is 40.8C. Phenol is soluble in alcohol, chloroform, diethylether, glycerin, carbon disulfide, alkali liquor and acetic acid. Oxygen in the air can oxygenize phenol to produce quinone. Pure phenol is colorless crystals with a characteristic odor. In the condition of long storage, especially exposure to the direct sunshine, it is easy to oxidize and turns into rose or dark brown. Phenol is easily deliquescent. It exhibits weak acidic properties.
Usage
